Christina poses for the camera phone!
Russell proposed to Christina early on the morning of May 17, 2007 on Edisto Beach, where they have spent much of their time since they have been dating. Earlier that night Christina and Russell had been to his Senior Ball at the SC Aquarium in Charleston celebrating medical school graduation with his classmates. A week prior Russell had convinced Christina to take a mini-vacation down to Edisto after the ball to have a chance to relax before everyone came into town for graduation. She had no idea what he had been planning. Nor did she know that he had been sneaking around ring shopping for weeks and had finally picked out the perfect ring, only to find out the day before he had planned to propose that her ring was not going to be fnished in time. However, after much deliberation he decided to go ahead as planned and take the trip to Edisto and propose there, even if only with her diamond.

Hand in hand, with the new bling!
Well, after a weekend spent either in the car or watching them go in circles followed by three long days of work and a formal ball Christina was ready to hit the sack! All the way down to Edisto she kept falling asleep, despite Russell constantly nudging her. When they finally arrived Russell suggested that they go for a walk on the beach as they had done many times before. However, this time Christina was not interested in the least and wanted to instead go for a walk in the morning. But, after all Russell had been through to make sure that he had her diamond (though not her ring) by that night to propose to her he was not about to let her off that easily. After resorting to heavy poughting and threats of going for a walk by himself, Christina finally gave into Russell. They made it down the beach one hundred yards or so when Russell stopped and began telling Christina how much he loved her and looked forward to their future together. But when he got down on his knee, Christina was definitely shocked, saying "Oh my God! What are you doing?" After he finally stumbled through "Will you marry me" and recollected the ring after nearly dropping it in the sand, Christina replied "Of course I'll marry you!"

Unfortunately, Christina and Russell had to return to Charleston early the next morning (despite Russell's promise of a relaxing day on the beach along with some tennis) in order to get the diamond back to the jeweler so that it could be mounted in the correct setting. Though Christina was a little hesitant to give up her new jewlery, the jeweler as promised had it back to her by early afternoon and in plenty of time before Russell's family and Christina's mom arrived for the graduation festivities.
